In the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Aston Villa defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-2, but lost 4-5 on aggregate and failed to advance to the Champions League semi-finals.
Although PSG led 2-0 at the start of the game, Aston Villa scored three goals in a row to equalize the score. Unfortunately, despite creating many chances, Aston Villa still failed to score a goal to equalize the score.
This season is Aston Villa's first time in the Champions League since 1983, and now it has ended in defeat. In the post-match interview, Aston Villa coach Unai Emery praised the fans' support at home and said: "We feel the energy of the fans."
"They never gave up when we were behind, and it was their encouragement that helped us play with confidence and momentum. We did it and we won the game. We were only one goal away from equalizing the aggregate score, but we didn't achieve it in the end. But we should be proud of our performance."
Now that Aston Villa's Champions League journey is over, they will focus on the Premier League and strive to get the top four to qualify for the Champions League next season. Aston Villa's next Premier League game will be on April 20, at home against Newcastle United.
When it comes to Premier League games, Emery said: "Next week we have Newcastle and Manchester City, which is really good because our best test is to face such opponents. See how we deal with it and how the fans enjoy it.
"We are working hard to build this team, to put in place a new structure and we are raising our standards. I want to get there with all the Aston Villa supporters, staff, owners, players and coaches."
